The following sketch of the Musalman usurption in Mysore is an attempt to present in a popular form the career of one of the most remarkable personages - Haider Ali, who have played their part on the stage of Indian histrory, together with that of his equally remarkable son - Tipu Sultan. The first distinguished by the energy, second by his bigotry, his hostility to the English, and the fatuous obstinacy which cost him his crown and his life. This book was revised and corrected by Golam Mohammed the only surviving son of Tipu Sultan. Lewin B Bowring was a British civil servant in India who served as commissioner of Mysore between 1862-1870. He was also an author and man of letters.
