This memoir encapsulates the essence of the life of Professor Mirza Nurul Huda over seven decades. His formative years and student life were spent in British India. Pakistan saw Professor Huda in his prime. Ignoring threats from the highest quarters of Pakistan's Central Government, Professor Huda fought valiantly for Bangladesh's (then East Pakistan) economic rights and was one of the main proponents of the “Two Economies” theory for Pakistan's two disparate wings. During the Bangladeshi period of his life, Professor M. N. Huda served his homeland over a period of six and a half years, as an Advisor to the government, the Minister of Finance and Planning, and the Vice President of Bangladesh.

Mirza Nurul Huda

Mirza Nurul Huda Was a brilliant student. He stood First in the Intermediate Arts (I.A.) examination of Rajshahi Division in 1937. Three years later, he won the prestigious Kali Narayan Scholarship (KNS) for graduating First among all Dhaka University Honours graduates of 1940. The following year, he stood First in the First Class in the Master of Arts (MA) Examination in the Department of Economics, Dhaka University. He earned his doctorate degree from Cornell University, USA, in less than two years, in 1949. The same year he joined Dhaka University as a Reader in Economics. Although Professor M. N. Huda took leave from the university to serve as a member of Pakistan's Planning Commission, Finance Minister of East Pakistan and the Governor of East Pakistan, and similar positions in the Government of Bangladesh, Dhaka University was always his home until he retired.
