As we look around the world to locate a charismatic, gracious, altruistic and humane leader, our search will definitely stop we come to the doorsteps of Sheikh Hasina, Hon'ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She got elected for the fourth time in December, 2018 to become the longest serving woman Prime Minister of the world, breaking the previous record held by Smt. Indira Gandhi. The present time has been referred to by experts as a golden period for Bangladesh, since the it is witnessing all-round development and progress, the country growth rate has surpassed all its South Asian neighbours, and is currently one of the highest in the world today. But all this has not happened overnight. Behind it is a story of untiring labour and sacrifice, and of missionary zeal which Sheikh Hasina has inherited from her illustrious father, the great leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Bangladeshi Nation. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is an iconic character who led the freedom struggle of Bangladesh from Pakistani misrule. For the first time anywhere in the world, a struggle which witnessed catastrophic bloodshed, death and destruction, resulted in the birth of a nation state which has language as its primary identity. Out of the 23 years of his political life, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman spent 14 years in jail. The Bengalis of East Pakistan since 1947 were subjected to political, economic and cultural tyranny by the military junta of Pakistan, which led to an armed revolt undertaken by the ‘Mukti Bahini' under the leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
