Time Stars Women is an anthology of 107 poems of Jibanananda Das rendered into English by different hands. The first of them was ‘Banalata Sen’, done by Martin Kirkman as back as 1942. The latest is ‘Fields of an Eager World’ rendered by Asif Chowdhury in January 2024. Some poems translated by the poet himself have also been included. Jibanananda Das left a huge corpus of poetry of which only a small fraction was published by him during his lifetime. The readers continue to focus on these poems. However, this volume contains a number of poems which were written during 1940s when his poetic worldview and diction underwent a radical change. The poet termed them as ‘later poems.’ Translation is a work of both interpretation and reconstruction. Different translators approach their tasks from different perspectives. To illustrate the point, fourteen translations of ‘Banalata Sen’ have been collected in this volume, including one done by Jibanananda Das himsel

ফয়জুল লতিফ চৌধুরী (জন্ম ১৯৫৯) সাহিত্যের নানা শাখায় সক্রিয় রয়েছেন। সাহিত্য গবেষণা তাঁর প্রিয় ক্ষেত্র। তিনি জীবনানন্দ দাশের কবিতা ও অন্যান্য রচনা নিয়ে প্রায় তিন দশক যাবৎ গবেষণা করে চলেছেন। জীবনানন্দ দাশের কবিতা ইংরেজিতে অনুবাদ এবং আন্তর্জাতিক পাঠকের কাছে পৌছে দেওয়ার ব্যাপারে তাঁর ভূমিকা অগ্রণী। তিনি ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, ডিকিন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, মনাশ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং লন্ডন স্কুল অব ইকোনমিক্সে অধ্যয়ন করেছেন। সাহিত্য ছাড়াও তিনি অর্থনীতি এবং ব্যবসায় প্রশাসন নিয়ে গবেষণা করেন ও অধ্যাপনা করেন। তাঁর অন্যতম গ্রন্থ “করাপট ব্যুরােক্র্যাসি অ্যান্ড প্রাইভেটাইজেশন অব ট্যাক্স এনফোর্সমেন্ট” দুর্নীতির অর্থনৈতিক ব্যাখ্যা সংবলিত বহুল পঠিত গবেষণা গ্রন্থ। বাংলাদেশ সরকারের কর্মকর্তা হিসেবে তিনি দেশে-বিদেশে বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পদে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। একই সঙ্গে বিশ্বব্যাংক ও আংকটাডের পরামর্শক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। ২০১৪ সালে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে তাঁর গবেষণা প্রতিবেদন “চটি সাহিত্যের পূর্ব পশ্চিম”। বর্তমানে তিনি বাংলা অভিধানে অসংকলিত বাংলা শব্দ নিয়ে গবেষণা করছেন।
